CSM 233 Computer Simulation & modeling lab activity 3

 STUDENT LAB/TUTORIAL ACTIVITY REPORT

Course Code : CSM 233

Course Name : Computer Simulation & modeling

EXPERIMENT/EXERCISE NO. : 03

TITLE OF EXPERIMENT/EXERCISE: Reprocessing Model & Multi Processing System Simulation Model

Goal AIM/OBJECTIVE (similar to the manual):

Description :

In this session we will cover:

1. The Arena simulation software environment.

2. Simulation project concepts such as Entities, Resources, Queues, Attributes, Variables, and Statistical accumulators in Arena.

3.Flowchartand data modules in Arena

4. The Create, Process, and Dispose modules in Arena.

5. Building and running a simple simulation model discuss the results of a simulation run.

Objectives:

A quick tour of the Arena environment

• Recap of basic concepts

• The three (3) basic modules

• Building your first model

• Before you run the model

• Running the model

• Viewing the results

CASE STUDY/ RELEVANT PROGRAMS / DESIGN/CONFIGURATION / IMPLEMENTATION/COMMANDS. (A PART FROM THE TEACHER TAUGHT IN THE

LAB)

Theory / Explanation:

Consider the following system. Create an Arena model.

a) Problem statement as stated here

b) Draw logical model using software (past it into your Word file)

c) Copy of statistical output (past it into your Word file)

d) Create a summary table of major performance measures

Problem Statement 1:

A manufacturing plant has the products arriving at a constant rate of 8 per minute and are processed in machine 1 with processing time exponentially distributed with 10 minutes, at the end of a process a quality inspection is carried out and found that 15% of the needs to be reprocessed in machine 1 with a reprocessing time exponentially distribution of 2 minutes. Simulate the model with 149 entities.

1. How many products are reprocessed? 2727

2. Machine 1 utilization? 0.90.9624624

3. How many products seized by machine 1? 176176

4. Average and maximum waiting time? AVG:41.62AVG:41.62 , MAX:180,12

5. Average and maximum WIP? AVG:6.1 MAX:18AVG:6.1 MAX:18

6. Average value added time? 7.737.73

.

The three (5) basic modules

1. Create:

–Entry point of entities into system

2. Process:

–Work is done on entities

3. Dispose:

–Exit point for entities from system

4. Assign:

5. Decide:

Write the detail report of the following.

Entities

Resources

Queues

Attributes

Variables

Statistical accumulators
